A number of flight engineers have voiced wishes to transition to pilots. Simulation of job transitions from flight engineers to pilots have been conducted by JAL in relation to the two man crew complement of the B747-400. There are many problems in relations to this and it has been pointed out that it is not realistic.
At the present time, job transition and crew complement have been discussed without differentiating the two; however these two issues should be discussed separately.
